Happy Mid-Autumn Festival 2009!... 中秋节快乐2009!...

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival my fellow readers~
Hope you all have a wonderful family gathering +reunion, and of course, have plenty of mooncakes too!

I've already had my fill, i like only the white lotus mooncake without the egg-yolk. I usually buy the ones imported from Hong Kong called 'Wing Wah Mooncakes', which is freakin expensive at $41 per box of 4 regular sized mooncake without egg-yolks..but quite ok if you share with friends the cost...what type of mooncake variety do my readers like? With the consumerism culture and innovative designs available nowadays, there's plenty of varieties and unique tastes to choose from, so do share readers!!

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! Best wishes to you and your family!

I saw these "mooncakes" from G.O.D. when I was in Hong Kong last month. They're pretty amusing, but I wouldn't buy them unless someone told me they were the best tasting mooncakes in the world.

You don't like mooncakes with egg yolk? *Faints* I love those! The ones I don't like are the ones with nuts... thank goodness, haven't found those among the 30 odd mooncakes I've been GIVEN this season! ;D

I don't like the ones with eggs or nuts, they taste funny. I love the plain ones, which most people don't like. The only problem with them is that they aren't too healthy.

The profit margins for mooncake manufacturers must be huge, given the prices. $10+ per mooncake? Yikes.

In a few days I'm off to see if there are any nice mooncakes (the less yokes the better) which have been heavily discounted!

You're lucky you can eat as many as you want.

aimlesswanderer: You can get the ones without egg yolks..they now come in a variety of pastes, not just lotus paste but red bean paste, green tea paste, etc..and also ice-cream mooncakes!

Chris: Happy Mid-Autumn to you too! Also, have fun in Shanghai holiday. I haven't been bck since 2004, must've changed now.:-)

Ai Shiang: Yes, they're still selling, at 10-50% discount somemore! So be quick to get one box before it sells out! I just bought another 50% off Kee Wah Mooncake box of 4 for $20, half the price of its original`cos they want to 'clean up' the stock for this yr as sales usually go down after the mmid-autumn fest' passes.

Ai Shiang: Also wanna ask u, did u end up going to the Malaysia Fest? I found this yr not as interesting as last yr, also the queues were so long and food ended up selling out waaaay too fast, they made not enough, damn i queued for 30 mins only to be told char koay kak sold out..hhhmm..do u know where can buy nice koay kak in sydney? even better, invite me over to ur home next time u make har:-)

Hi Hcpen,
I haven't had the chance to go and buy the mooncakes. Actually wanted to go today to have a look but too busy. I have to buy something this week, will check if they still have Kee Wah brand. We usually buy "Maxim's" brand.

By the way, what's char koay kak? Maybe we call it differently between east and west malaysia. Is it the fried white carrot cake?

I went to the Msia festival. I think the number of stalls actually been reduced. I didn't end up buying anything unfortunately.

Ai Shiang: Yeah should go buy quick. It is the fried white radish cake. Also called chai tao koay.
